Good Leaders Study Success Stories

http://s731.photobucket.com/albums/ww314/blurrrdesign/?action=view&current=TriStateGroupvisitsezway.jpgThis week the Tri-State Economic Development group of volunteers and professionals continued their collaboration and study of what has been successful in rural areas.  They traveled to Clarinda to learn about business expansion projects.  The group toured the new location of EZ Way Inc, a business purchased and relocated to Clarinda by the Lisle Company and The Garrison Coffee House renovation by Mick & Carolyn Miller on the square.

In 1903, C.A. Lisle started the company with the first product being horse-powered water well drilling machines.  In the mid-20s, Lisle Corporation made its first automotive product, a master ignition vibrator for Ford Model T vehicles. The first Lisle tool, a valve refacer, fast became a repair shop must since valves were reground every 20,000 miles at that time. In the 1930s the magnetic drain plug line was launched. The line grew steadily and Lisle plugs were used extensively in many pieces of military equipment during World War II.

http://s731.photobucket.com/albums/ww314/blurrrdesign/?action=view&current=JasonBridie.jpgThe company has branched out even more in the last decades through acquisitions and constant innovation of new products. Today, Lisle specialty automotive tools, mechanic's creepers, and lubrication & tire products are the preferred line among automotive warehouse distributors and jobbers because Lisle manufactures quality products that are priced right. The specialty automotive tool line now consists of more than 400 products, with the great majority of them being produced at the expanded site of the original factory built in Clarinda, Iowa in 1903.

Their most recent expansion has been the EZ Way line of patient lifts to accommodate safe patient handling requirements in hospitals and nursing homes.  Opened in 2004, the marketing of this equipment has expanded to a nationwide territory.

The members and paid staff of  the Atchison County Economic Development Corporation, Fremont County Economic Development Corporation, River City Economic Development Corporation (Nebraska City), Clarinda Economic Development Corporations continue to network and collaborate monthly.  The goal is to increase tourism dollars spent in this area as well as increase awareness of ways to assist in job creation and expansion for the region.  Future tours will include visits to Shenandoah's algae plant in April, and Nebraska City's Tourism and Commerce office in May.
